
Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Open New Runway – Latest Turkey News

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be present for the opening of the second runway at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, according to Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. Scheduled for Monday, December 25, the opening of the second runway will double the capacity of the second busiest airport in Turkey, according to Uraloğlu. The airport is expected to host 40 million passengers in the coming years, with plans to build a new terminal as well. Uraloğlu also stated that Atatürk Airport will continue to provide service and new terminals will be built at Istanbul Airport to accommodate the growing number of passengers. Additionally, Uraloğlu emphasized the importance of providing equal transportation services to every part of Turkey, with a focus on airport developments in eastern and southeastern Anatolia. The Minister also addressed the preparations for a possible earthquake, emphasizing that the Ministry is actively reviewing and reinforcing critical structures. Finally, Uraloğlu shared details about flight ticket prices, the renovation works at Hatay Airport, and ongoing developments in aviation infrastructure across the country.
