Sacred Music Shines at Ars Sacra Festival in Transylvanian City

Sibiu, Romania is gearing up to host the lively Ars Sacra festival from September 14 to 22, offering a captivating exploration of sacred music and art. Organized by HÍD – Association of Hungarians in Sibiu, this year’s festival will feature nine historical places of worship, including St. John’s Church, the Orthodox Cathedral, the city’s Reformed Church, and the Great Synagogue.

The festival will present a diverse range of performances encompassing various genres of sacred music, with notable guests such as organist Erich Türk and choirs from Wroclaw adding an international touch to the program. Levente Serfőző, the chief organizer, emphasized the festival’s collaborative nature, stating, “it is a great collaboration, and as the festival is all about sacred culture, I am delighted that everyone has joined in with open arms and hearts.”

In addition to musical performances, this year’s festival will feature ten exhibitions, an increase from the previous year’s four, as well as special events like Open Church Day, allowing the public to explore normally closed churches. Mr. Serfőző expressed the festival’s success, revealing, “we plan to organize the event every year and hope to expand it to nearby towns.”

Ars Sacra not only celebrates religious diversity but also aims to strengthen cultural bonds between Budapest and Sibiu, making it a must-attend event for art and music enthusiasts. With a commitment to showcasing the rich heritage of sacred music and art, the Ars Sacra festival promises a unique and enriching experience for all attendees.
