Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov recently attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games 2025 in Harbin, China on February 7. The event took place at the city’s international exhibition center and was a festive celebration of winter sports and cultural unity.
The ceremony featured a symbolic journey through Harbin, China, and all of Asia, with different segments highlighting the cultural significance of the winter season, the dynamism of winter sports, and the strong bonds of friendship among Asian countries. The event concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the unity and cooperation among nations in the region.
The 9th Winter Asian Games will run from February 7 to February 14, with over 1,270 athletes from 34 countries and regions of Asia participating in various disciplines. Kyrgyzstan will be represented by 40 athletes competing in ice hockey, curling, slalom, cross-country skiing, biathlon, and figure skating.
In addition to President Japarov, other notable officials present at the opening ceremony included Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah, Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won-shik.
The Asian Winter Games serve as a platform for athletes from across the continent to showcase their skills, promote friendship and cultural exchange, and strengthen ties between nations. The event promises to be an exciting display of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the participating countries.
