Sadyr Japarov Breaks Ground on New Terminal at Osh Airport

President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, has initiated a significant project to develop the aviation infrastructure in the southern part of the country. The construction of a new airport complex at Osh International Airport is underway, with plans to enhance the overall airport facilities and services.

The new terminal, spanning across two stories with a basement, will cover a total area of 25,443 square meters and is capable of accommodating over 5 million passengers annually. The terminal will offer various amenities such as a spacious waiting area, modern check-in counters, a food court, recreational spaces, and an automated parking facility for 650 cars.

Furthermore, the airport’s comprehensive modernization plan includes expanding the apron to increase aircraft parking spaces, extending the runway, and upgrading the lighting system to improve landing capabilities in adverse weather conditions. By 2027, the runways of both Bishkek and Osh airports will undergo reconstruction to enhance operational efficiency.

President Japarov highlighted the recent developments in the country’s aviation sector, including the commissioning of Karakol and Talas airports, runway repairs at various airports, and the addition of new aircraft to the fleet. The growing passenger flow at Osh airport necessitated the construction of a new terminal to accommodate the increasing demand and facilitate smoother operations.

The Osh airport serves as a vital transportation hub in the Fergana region, connecting Central Asia, the CIS, and the Middle East. The design and construction of the new terminal are overseen by the Ministry of Construction and Architecture, with funding provided by Airports of Kyrgyzstan.

President Japarov emphasized the strategic importance of transforming Osh International Airport into a pivotal economic center that supports tourism and business development in the region. The construction of the new airport complex marks the beginning of a larger vision to bolster the country’s aviation industry and contribute to its overall economic growth.
