
Sadyr Japarov seeks Japanese investment in Kyrgyzstan’s HPPs

President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, recently met with Toshiaki Endo, the Chairman of the General Council of the Liberal Democratic Party and Deputy of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Japan. During their meeting, they discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Japan.
Japarov conveyed his greetings and warm wishes to the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, and mentioned their last meeting in Glasgow in 2021. He emphasized the importance of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, as it plays a significant role in strengthening bilateral relations. Japarov expressed his gratitude to the Japanese side for their constant support in promoting democracy and the social and economic development of Kyrgyzstan.
Furthermore, Japarov highlighted the crucial role of parliament members from both countries in promoting culture, traditions, and spiritual values as part of the development of public parliamentary diplomacy. He also praised the successful results of the One Village – One Product project, which has now been designated as a national project. Japarov expressed the decision to expand this project to all regions of the country.
Recognizing Japan as one of the world’s leading economies, Japarov expressed interest in attracting advanced technologies and innovations to develop the national economy. He invited Japan to participate in projects related to the construction and operation of small hydropower plants in the field of hydropower. Additionally, Japarov highlighted the untapped potential of the tourism industry.
In response, Toshiaki Endo extended an invitation from Japan’s leadership to President Japarov for a visit to Japan. He expressed Japan’s readiness to further develop cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, with a focus on investing in human resources. Endo also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the fight against climate change.
Endo mentioned a project in the power industry and expressed hope for its prompt implementation with the support of Kyrgyzstan’s leadership. The meeting concluded with the exchange of several documents, including a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Labour, Social Security, and Migration of Kyrgyzstan and various ministries in Japan. This memorandum aimed to establish a framework for information partnership relating to foreign labor force with the status of residence “Employee with certain skills.”
The meeting between President Japarov and Toshiaki Endo signals the commitment of both countries to enhancing their cooperation in various sectors. The potential for economic collaboration, technological advancements, and cultural exchanges is expected to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Kyrgyzstan and Japan.
