Samarkand Central Asia-GCC Summit Delayed

Postponement of Central Asian and GCC Summit
The highly anticipated summit between Central Asian countries and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), set for May 5 in Samarkand, has been postponed indefinitely. This development was first reported by Kun.uz and later confirmed by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Akhror Burkhanov, a spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the decision to delay the summit was made in mutual agreement among all participating parties. "The sides are currently working on determining a new date through mutual consultations," Burkhanov remarked. He assured that further details would be released in due course.
Despite the postponement, the ministry underscored its commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation within this regional framework. The need for continued efforts in enhancing collaboration remains a priority.
Prior to this decision, Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, attended the third ministerial meeting of the “Central Asia – GCC Strategic Dialogue” in Kuwait on April 16, where the plans for the summit in Samarkand were initially announced.
As stakeholders work to establish a new date, the importance of this summit in facilitating stronger ties between Central Asia and the GCC countries remains paramount.
