Earthquake Leads to School Evacuations in Istanbul
On April 23, an earthquake occurred off the coast of the Marmara Sea, prompting immediate safety checks at schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Istanbul. Following these inspections, it was confirmed that four schools sustained damage, with Gazi Imam Hatip Secondary School in Silivri being one of the affected institutions.
In light of the situation, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin announced that four school buildings, including three historical sites, have been evacuated. The decision aims to ensure student safety while addressing the structural integrity of these facilities.
During the evacuation, students currently enrolled at the impacted schools will continue their education at Gazi Primary School, located nearby on Back Street. This temporary measure will allow students to maintain their academic progress despite the upheaval caused by the earthquake.
Officials are prioritizing the assessment and restoration of the damaged schools, reiterating their commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all students.
