Two teenagers rescued after falling through ice in Kyrgyzstan
On January 9, 2024, in the town of Balykchi, Kyrgyzstan, two teenagers fell through the ice while skating on a pond. Thanks to the prompt response of four rescuers, the teenagers were saved from the freezing water. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported that the rescue operations were carried out jointly with police officers and local residents.
The rescuers broke through the ice on the half-frozen pond and used rescue equipment to pull the schoolchildren to safety. Once rescued, the teenagers were provided with first aid and then handed over to doctors. Both teenagers are reported to be in stable condition and are currently under the supervision of doctors in the hospital.
This incident is a reminder of the dangers of venturing onto frozen bodies of water during the winter months. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and avoid skating or walking on ice that may not be thick enough to support their weight.
