Schools Closed for 2 Days After Natural Gas Explosions in Darıca

Education in Darıca and Gebze districts of Kocaeli was disrupted for 2 days due to works on natural gas lines. According to a statement by the Darıca District Governorship on social media, all levels of public and private educational institutions in the district, including nursery, primary school, secondary school, and high schools, will remain closed on December 30 and December 31.

In addition, Süleyman Demirel Anatolian High School, Fatih Vocational Technical Anatolian High School, and 4 private educational institutions in Gebze district will also not be holding classes for 2 days.

The disruption in education was caused by damage to a steel line belonging to a natural gas distribution company in Bayramoğlu District of Darıca. The damage occurred as a result of unauthorized excavation carried out by a private company. This led to a natural gas outage in some neighborhoods of Darıca and Gebze.

In response to the incident, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Nevzat Şatıroğlu stated that 41 teams have been working around the clock to restore natural gas supply to affected users. He emphasized the importance of safety in providing gas supply to citizens and urged residents to cooperate with technical teams visiting buildings for this purpose.

Şatıroğlu also reassured the public that efforts are being made to quickly and safely restore gas supply to all affected areas. He advised citizens to call the natural gas emergency line 187 in case of any odor related to gas leakage.

Despite the challenges, teams are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Darıca and Gebze districts. The Ministry, Governorship, Municipality, and other relevant authorities are actively involved in the efforts to resolve the situation and restore normalcy to the affected areas.
