SCNS Chairman Calls for Action on Domestic Violence Prevention
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – November 18, 2023: Kamchybek Tashiev, the head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) in Kyrgyzstan, has addressed the issue of domestic violence in the country. Speaking at the opening of the department of the SCNS in Panfilov district, Tashiev instructed authorities to intensify efforts to combat domestic violence, particularly in rural areas.
Tashiev emphasized the need for collaboration with district police officers to identify households where women and children are subjected to violence. He expressed concern about the deteriorating mental health of the population, highlighting the disturbing trend of increasing cases of rape, abuse, and even murder of women and children. Tashiev urged the authorities to pay close attention to this negative societal indicator.
In addition to addressing the immediate response to instances of domestic violence, Tashiev also stressed the importance of carrying out preventive work to address the root causes of such violence.
