SCNS Launches Paid DNA Testing Services in Laboratory

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) is proposing a new initiative to conduct paid molecular genetic (DNA) tests for citizens in its laboratory. The draft law has been submitted for public discussion, aiming to amend the laws “On Forensic Activity” and “On National Security Agencies”.
The State Committee has highlighted that a laboratory for human DNA analysis was established within the SCNS in 2024. This facility will enable the conducting of molecular genetic studies for various purposes such as determining biological kinship, conducting forensic studies of objects of biological origin seized from crime scenes, and identifying individuals.
Officials believe that this type of analysis is a timely solution for preventing and solving serious and heinous crimes. Modern DNA analysis methods are highly precise and require only small samples such as drops of blood, saliva, sweat, hair with a root, clipped nails, and personal items.
The SCNS emphasized that this laboratory is the first and only DNA analysis facility of its kind in the country, without any equivalents nationwide. Previously, citizens of Kyrgyzstan had to seek forensic laboratories abroad for such examinations.
To ensure the successful operation of the DNA laboratory, regular purchases of expensive reagents and consumables will be necessary. The proposed changes in regulations are aimed at enhancing the professional skills and knowledge of national security personnel, as well as ensuring the continuous development and maintenance of the laboratory’s material and technical resources.
Overall, the implementation of paid DNA tests in the SCNS laboratory is expected to bring significant advancements in forensic capabilities and contribute to the overall security and safety of the citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
