SCNS Responds to Maxim Bakiyev’s Return to Kyrgyzstan

News Update: Maxim Bakiyev Has Not Arrived in Kyrgyzstan

In a recent report by the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS), it has been confirmed that the information regarding Maxim Bakiyev, the son of fugitive president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, arriving in Kyrgyzstan is false. This statement was made in response to a post by investigative journalist Bolot Temirov, who claimed that Maxim Bakiyev had landed in Bishkek on a private plane and was staying in a hotel.

According to SCNS, if Maxim Bakiyev had indeed entered the country, he would have been detained immediately. President Sadyr Japarov had previously declared in May 2023 that Kurmanbek Bakiyev, along with his brothers and children, is wanted and would face immediate arrest if they were to set foot in Kyrgyzstan.

Maxim Bakiyev had been sentenced to life imprisonment and property confiscation in 2014, albeit in absentia. The SCNS reiterated that the rumors of his presence in the country are unfounded.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
