SCO Leaders Convene in Secure Islamabad to Discuss Regional Issues
Four Israeli soldiers were killed and dozens were injured, including seven critically, in a devastating attack on an army base near the northern Israeli town of Binyamina. The attack, carried out by Hezbollah drones, marked one of the bloodiest incidents in Israel since October 2023.
Hezbollah, an armed group and political party controlling much of southern Lebanon, claimed responsibility for the attack. The assault involved a “swarm of attack drones” targeting a military training camp in Binyamina.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack, with reports of over 60 wounded individuals receiving assistance from rescue services. The National emergency service Magen David Adom stated that at least 67 people were injured in the attack in Israel’s Haifa district.
Following the attack, tensions escalated further as UN peacekeepers accused Israeli forces of breaching one of their bases in Lebanon, resulting in minor injuries. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the withdrawal of UN peacekeepers from combat zones in southern Lebanon, sparking international concern.
Amid fears of a broader regional conflict, Israel’s preparations for a retaliatory strike on Iran raised concerns. The United States dispatched a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery and troops to Israel in a bid to bolster the country’s air defenses.
As the situation continues to unfold, diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions. Calls for peace and restraint have been echoed by various world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Iranian authorities, and the UN.
With the situation in the Middle East remaining volatile, the international community is closely monitoring developments and advocating for a peaceful resolution to prevent further bloodshed and instability.
