Sealed Ballot Paper Abroad Sparks Criminal Complaint
Election Fraud Investigated in Turkey
The Foreign District Election Board in Turkey is investigating a case of election fraud after it was discovered that one of the unopened parliamentary election ballots sent to Sydney, Australia had been tampered with. The ballot was examined in accordance with the instructions of the Supreme Election Board and it was found that a preference had been made for the name of a political party before it was sealed.
Following the report, representatives from political parties present at the scene filed a criminal complaint with the Overseas District Election Board. The Overseas District Election Board then unanimously decided to investigate the matter further and referred it to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
It is essential in any democracy that elections are free and fair, and any attempt to tamper with the electoral process is a serious offense. Those found guilty of committing election fraud should face severe legal consequences.
