New Regulations Imposed on Second-Hand Motor Vehicle Advertising in Turkey
The Ministry of Commerce in Turkey has recently made important amendments to the Regulation on the Trade of Second-Hand Motor Vehicles. These amendments aim to regulate the marketing of second-hand motor land vehicles and prevent deceptive practices in the advertising of such vehicles. The new regulations restrict the advertisement of second-hand motor vehicles at a price higher than the current sales price recommended by the manufacturer or distributor until January 1, 2024.
Any advertisement found to be in violation of this regulation will be considered as second-hand motor land vehicle trade by the Ministry of Commerce. Those individuals or entities responsible for placing these misleading advertisements may be subject to an administrative fine of up to 300,000 TL per advertisement.
Since the implementation of the regulation, it has been observed that some advertisers are manipulating the prices of their vehicle advertisements on various online platforms. They achieve this by entering or updating the prices while discarding the zero. The Ministry of Commerce has also received reports regarding these misleading advertisements through social media channels.
To address this issue effectively, the Ministry will evaluate advertisements that are deceptive, misleading, and do not reflect the reality of the vehicle within the scope of the regulation. Those who place these advertisements may face administrative fines imposed by the Ministry.
In response to the regulatory changes, the Ministry of Commerce has taken proactive steps to collaborate with advertisement platforms. Meetings have been held to inform and warn the members of these platforms about the new restrictions. The Ministry expects these platforms to take necessary measures and comply with the regulations.
