Şentop Pays Tribute to Champion Angels’ Graves and Meets with Families

Former President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop recently visited the graves of the Champion Angels in the Famagusta Cemetery. Accompanied by the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic, Zorlu Töre, and a guest delegation, Şentop placed flowers on the graves and offered prayers as a gesture of respect.

Following this visit, Şentop also met with the families of the children who lost their lives in an earthquake. The former president expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of lives, stating that each loss had its own painful story. He emphasized the importance of following legal processes and ensuring that necessary punishments are given to prevent such pain from happening again.

In light of recent experiences, Şentop mentioned that there is a heightened awareness about earthquakes in Turkey and that necessary legal regulations have been put in place. However, he stressed that it is equally important for citizens to fulfill the requirements of this awareness in order to ensure safety.

President of the Champion Angels Keeping Alive Association, Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, also spoke on the matter, pointing out that the Isias Hotel building was demolished as a result of permissions obtained illegally, leading to the loss of lives. She expressed determination in continuing their fight for justice and called for those responsible to receive the heaviest punishment in accordance with Turkish law in order to prevent such heavy losses from occurring again.
