Serbia Faces Devastating Armed Attack: 8 Killed, 13 Injured

Serbia has been hit by two tragic incidents this week, leaving the country in mourning. On Thursday, an automatic gunman opened fire from a moving vehicle near Mladenvac before escaping. Police are currently searching for the attacker. At least eight people were injured and hospitalized at the emergency medical center in Belgrade, with two of them in a serious condition. The incident has been described as an “act of terrorism” by Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic.
This follows a rare deadly school attack on Wednesday, when a 13-year-old student killed eight of his peers and a security guard at Vladislav Ribnikar primary school in downtown Belgrade. The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, called it “one of the most difficult days” in recent history. In response, he has proposed stricter gun control measures, including a two-year moratorium on allowing firearms. The Ministry of Interior has also urged firearm owners to keep their guns locked in safes, warning that non-compliance could result in confiscation.
The Balkan nation is now in mourning, with a three-day mourning period beginning on Friday, despite it usually being a festive time in Serbia when people flock outside during spring. Serbia is reeling from these devastating events, which have left lives shattered and communities in shock.
