Sergeant Mehmet Kökcü Laid to Rest in Malatya
The Turkish nation mourns the loss of Artillery Specialist Sergeant Mehmet Kökcü, who tragically became a martyr due to an illness he suffered while on duty in İzmir. His body was laid to rest in his hometown of Malatya, with a solemn ceremony held at the Malatya City Cemetery.
The atmosphere was heavy with grief as the body of martyr Kökcü, draped in the Turkish flag, was carried to the catafalque by fellow soldiers. The afternoon prayer, led by Provincial Mufti Ramazan Dolu, offered a moment of reflection and honor for the fallen soldier before his final resting place.
The ceremony was attended by the martyr’s wife, Gülşah, and their son Ahmet Eren, along with other relatives and distinguished guests including Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Sami Er, and members of parliament Veli Ağbaba and Mehmet Celal Fendoğlu. The presence of military officials and party leaders highlighted the respect and honor bestowed upon the late artillery specialist.
During the ceremony, Gülşah Kökcü received support and comfort from the employees of the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, as the community came together to grieve and pay their respects. The loss of Sergeant Mehmet Kökcü is deeply felt by all who knew him, and his memory will forever be honored and cherished in Malatya.
