Servet Yardimci Announces Candidacy for Turkish Football Federation Presidency
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is gearing up for a presidential election, and UEFA Executive Board Member Servet Yardimci has thrown his hat into the ring as a candidate.
Yardimci, who is the second candidate to announce his bid for the TFF presidency after businessman Erdal Alkış, highlighted the deep administrative crisis that Turkish football is currently facing. In a statement, Yardimci emphasized the need for Turkey to reclaim its rightful place in the world of football, given its standing as one of the 20 largest economies globally.
With 40 years of experience in business and two decades in national football, Yardimci expressed his intention to leverage his knowledge and relationships, along with a competent team, to benefit Turkish football. He outlined five key concepts that he aims to prioritize if elected as TFF president, including managing the sport in a participatory, transparent, and accountable manner in alignment with international standards set by UEFA/FIFA.
Yardimci also stressed the importance of transitioning Turkish football into a modern order that prioritizes branding and infrastructure development, while also supporting Anatolian football and distributing financial resources equitably. Additionally, he highlighted the need to establish a competitive and international corporate structure under the TFF umbrella.
In an effort to elevate Turkish refereeing to international standards, Yardimci proposed revitalizing the sector and ensuring institutional neutrality to meet the public’s expectations. He plans to unveil his full vision and projects at a press conference in the coming days.
The TFF Financial General Assembly has been scheduled for July 18 as an elective general assembly, according to TFF President Mehmet Büyükekşi. As the election race heats up, the football community eagerly awaits the unveiling of Yardimci’s plans for the future of Turkish football.
Servet Yardimci, a native of Rize and a graduate of London Metropolitan University, brings a wealth of experience to the table with 40 years in the ship ownership and shipyard business. Having previously served as TFF President and as the first Turk to hold a high-ranking position at UEFA, Yardimci’s track record includes successfully hosting UEFA events in Turkey and leading the bid for the 2032 UEFA European Football Championship.
As the election campaign unfolds, the Turkish football landscape stands at a critical juncture, with Yardimci’s candidacy offering a new vision for the future of the sport in the country.
