Severe Snowfall Hits Istanbul: Coldest Night Predicted

The Ministry of Meteorology’s General Directorate of Meteorology weather forecasting specialist, Murat Acar, has issued a warning regarding the upcoming weather in Turkey. According to Acar, the country will be hit by cold and snowy weather originating from the Black Sea, with temperatures expected to drop 6 to 8 degrees below normal.

Acar highlighted that Ankara will experience temperatures as low as minus 10-11 degrees, Istanbul will drop to minus 2-3 degrees, and Izmir will fall below zero. The General Directorate of Meteorology has also issued a 3-day strong snow warning for Istanbul, with heavy snowfall expected in the northern parts of the Black Sea and Marmara Region, as well as the coastal part of the Eastern Black Sea.

In Istanbul, Acar advised that the northern parts will experience snowfall on Saturday and Sunday, with the high areas particularly at risk. He also warned of light snow in Ankara on Saturday and noted that cold weather and frost will be prevalent in the capital until Wednesday.

Acar emphasized that the cold weather will persist until the end of the month, with temperatures expected to rise slightly starting from Tuesday. He mentioned that the first week of March may bring relatively warmer and rainy weather, with increased rainfall due to the influence of Mediterranean air.

For the eastern parts of Turkey, including the east of Sivas, the eastern Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia, and Central Anatolia, Acar cautioned that extremely cold weather will be in effect until the end of the weekend. He warned of temperatures dropping 10-15 degrees below zero, advising citizens to stay indoors to avoid the icy conditions.

Overall, the Ministry of Meteorology is urging people to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the changing weather conditions in order to stay safe during this period of cold weather in Turkey.
