President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Outlines Six Key Areas of Cooperation between Central Asia and Germany
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently outlined six key areas of cooperation between Central Asia and Germany during the second “Central Asia – Germany” summit held in Astana. The summit, attended by leaders from Central Asian countries and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, aimed to enhance economic and geopolitical ties between the two regions.
Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for hosting the event and commended Chancellor Scholz for his dedication to strengthening the partnership with Central Asia. During his address, Mirziyoyev highlighted the historical links between Central Asia and Germany, dating back to the 18th century, which provide a solid foundation for the current cooperation between the regions.
Focusing on six priority areas, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of long-term strategic cooperation for stability and sustainable development in Central Asia. He proposed the adoption of a comprehensive Concept for Developing Cooperation, supported by a “Central Asia-Germany Forum of Analytical Centers,” to deepen regional cooperation.
The Uzbek President also stressed the significance of investment and technological partnerships between Central Asia and Germany, highlighting the presence of German companies in Uzbekistan with ongoing projects across various sectors. Mirziyoyev proposed the creation of a roadmap for expanding investment ties and launching a business dialogue platform.
Additionally, Mirziyoyev discussed the development of the region’s mineral resources with German expertise, the potential for “green” energy partnerships, joint efforts to address climate change, and improving transport links between Central Asia and Europe.
In conclusion, President Mirziyoyev reiterated Uzbekistan’s commitment to advancing the Central Asia-Germany partnership and expressed confidence that the summit would lead to concrete projects and deepen ties between the two regions. With Uzbekistan set to host the next “Central Asia-European Union” summit in 2024, the Uzbek leader looks forward to continued growth in the strategic partnership with Germany in the years ahead.
