Signatures for Domestic Air Defense Projects
Turkey has recently made a bold move in enhancing its national defense capabilities by initiating the “Mass Production Contracts Signing Ceremony of SİPER Product-1 and HİSAR Projects”. The ceremony, organized by the Presidency of Defense Industries, catered to the significant needs of the Turkish Armed Forces.
This pivotal event was attended by several esteemed individuals, including Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, and President of Defense Industries Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün. Additionally, Land Forces Commander General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Air Forces Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, and Deputy Ministers of National Defense were present at the ceremony, as well as other sector representatives.
The contract signed between the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and the Presidency of Defense Industries, in collaboration with ASELSAN, amounted to an impressive total of 428,538,878.16 euros and 4,884,244,675.07 TL. The agreement secured the completion of acceptance activities for the Long Range Regional Air and Missile Defense System SİPER Product-1 by May 2024, with mass production deliveries scheduled to commence in January 2026.
Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün delivered significant statements during the ceremony, highlighting the transformation of Turkey’s air defense capabilities over the past few years. Görgün emphasized the country’s progress from previously seeking permissions from other nations, to becoming a formidable and independent force with its own advanced electronic warfare capabilities and air defense systems.
The SİPER Project, developed by ASELSAN A.Ş., ROKETSAN A.Ş., and TÜBİTAK SAGE Business Partnership, aims to address the need for a long-range regional air and missile defense system in Turkey. The associated Product-1 and Product-2, with extended ranges and altitudes, bolster the country’s air defense mission across various layers and terrains.
Additionally, the HİSAR-A+ and HİSAR-O+ systems have been pivotal developments in Turkey’s defense capabilities, offering autonomous air defense for armored mechanized mobile units and regional air defense missions, respectively.
The advancements witnessed within Turkey’s defense industry are testament to the nation’s commitment to enhancing its self-reliance and security.
