
Silk Road SCO Marathon Launches in Cholpon-Ata

International Issyk-Kul Marathon Kicks Off in Cholpon-Ata
Bishkek, 09:45, 03 May 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of athletics and culture, the International Issyk-Kul Marathon, dubbed Run the Silk Road — SCO, officially commenced today in Cholpon-Ata. This year’s event has attracted approximately 3,000 athletes hailing from 20 different countries, uniting participants in a spirit of camaraderie and competition.
The marathon features a range of distances catering to various skill levels and preferences, including:
- 42.2 kilometers (full marathon)
- 21.1 kilometers (half marathon)
- 10 kilometers (for both running enthusiasts and Nordic walkers)
- 3 kilometers (a family-friendly distance)
Alongside the marathon festivities, Cholpon-Ata marks the opening of its tourist season. The city will host the Tourism 2030 forum, where industry leaders and stakeholders will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing and developing tourism in the region. Additional activities planned throughout the day include a fair, thrilling horse racing events, and a gala concert featuring popular domestic artists.
As participants lace up their running shoes, the combination of keen athleticism and cultural festivities promises to make this year’s marathon a memorable occasion for both locals and visitors alike.
