The Skoda Octavia has once again emerged as the favorite car among Hungarians in June, according to a report by World Economy. Despite the overall mixed results in the new car market, with a 10 percent increase in registrations compared to the same period last year, Skoda continues to dominate the competition.

With 1,277 cars delivered in June, Skoda maintains its position as the leading car brand in Hungary. However, experts believe that the success of the Czech brand is largely driven by old orders. In fact, many dealerships are replenishing their stocks with Skoda cars ordered as early as two years ago in 2021.

Toyota secured the second spot in the June race with 1,247 units, while Suzuki, known for its Hungarian production line, came in third with 970 units. Despite the challenges faced by the automotive industry, Toyota has managed to gain a significant lead in the first half of the year, selling 7,560 cars compared to Skoda’s 5,566 and Volkswagen’s 4,871.

The best-selling models in June were the Skoda Octavia with 723 units, followed by the Suzuki S-Cross with 465 units, and an increase in new Toyota Corolla owners by 390. The Suzuki Vitara also came close to the podium with 365 cars sold.

While the overall picture of the new car market remains uncertain due to the difficulty in distinguishing between old and new contracts, one thing is clear – private buyers are disappearing from the market. This is a worrying trend that may have long-term implications for the industry.

Despite the challenges faced by car manufacturers, András Varga, the marketing director of Magyar Suzuki Zrt., emphasized that reducing prices is not possible due to the increasing cost of car production. The current list price of the popular Suzuki models, for example, is around 9 million HUF (EUR 23,780) for the S-Cross and 8.49 million HUF (EUR 22,433) for the Vitara.

Looking ahead, it is unlikely that prices will fall, and the low interest rates could negatively impact the forint-euro exchange rate. Therefore, experts recommend taking advantage of any occasional special offers to make the most of the current market conditions.

In conclusion, the Skoda Octavia’s consistent popularity among Hungarians highlights its strong position in the market. However, the challenges faced by the industry, including older orders and the decline in private buyers, present a complex landscape that car manufacturers must navigate.
