Slovakia aids Hungary in evacuating citizens from Lebanon, reveals Foreign Minister Szijjártó
Hungary and Slovakia Agree to Evacuate more Hungarian Citizens from Lebanon
In a joint effort between Hungary and Slovakia, more Hungarian citizens will be evacuated from Lebanon, according to an agreement between the two countries. Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, made the announcement in Budapest on Friday.
Szijjártó revealed that there are hundreds of Hungarians currently in Lebanon, with 233 of them being within the embassy’s field of vision. Most of these individuals are residents of Lebanon, while 22 have registered for consular protection as citizens staying in the country for a shorter period, such as for holidays, work, or other reasons. Earlier in August, Hungary successfully evacuated 18 Hungarians, including 7 minors.
This time, ten individuals have requested assistance in returning home, and they will be flown back with a Slovak plane. Szijjártó noted that Hungary has also offered aid to other European countries in similar situations.
For security reasons, the exact timing of the flight will be communicated privately to the evacuees. The plane is scheduled to land in Bratislava.
Szijjártó urged all Hungarian citizens to avoid traveling to the region and to reach out to the consulate’s emergency number or the embassy if they find themselves in trouble in Lebanon.
