Snowfall turns into dam water – Breaking news

Snowfall Brings Life-Giving Water to Dams

The recent snowfall in various regions has brought with it a much-needed positive impact on water levels in dams. From Thrace to Kocaeli, the melting snow and rainfall have resulted in a significant increase in water levels in the dams that are vital for agriculture and drinking water supply.

In Thrace, where the region faced a dry summer last year, the Kazandere and Papuçdere dams in Kırklareli saw a gradual decrease in water levels. However, the snow and rain that fell in February have boosted the water level of these dams to 79% and 61%, respectively.

According to Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Lokman Hakan Tecer, the recent snowfall and rainfall will contribute significantly to increasing water levels in dams and groundwater levels. Despite the extreme weather conditions, the timing of these rains will benefit both the water levels in the dams and the groundwater levels in the region.

In Kocaeli, the Yuvacık Dam, which had dropped to 17% capacity last year, has now risen to 45% following the recent rainfall. This increase in water levels has brought a white landscape to the dam, visible from above.

Overall, the snowfall has proven to be a life-giving source of water for the dams in Istanbul and surrounding regions, providing much-needed relief for water scarcity in these areas.
