Social Media Age Groups Finalized for Turkey News – Coming This Year

The Turkish government is taking steps to regulate social media arrangements for children under the age of 16. Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas has announced that the regulation will be implemented this year.
Minister Goktas made these comments following a meeting at a UN event, which had a high level of participation compared to the UN General Assembly. She highlighted the importance of combating digital dependence and limiting social media access for children under 16 years of age.
Goktas revealed that the government is planning to introduce a two-stage arrangement for children aged up to 13 and those in the 13-16 age group. She emphasized that similar concerns are felt not only in Turkey but also around the world.
The Minister stressed the responsibility of social media platforms and families in addressing this issue. She mentioned that certain algorithms need to be put in place and obligations need to be fulfilled by these platforms. The government plans to give them a specific timeframe to make these adjustments.
The regulation is expected to be finalized and presented to the Turkish parliament within a year. Minister Goktas expressed confidence in completing the necessary arrangements to protect children online and ensure a safer digital environment for all.
