‘Social Services and Law Enforcement Training in Ashgabat’

The USAID program "Safe Migration in Central Asia" (SMICA) partnered with the UNODC to host a training session on preventing child trafficking on May 30, 2024. The event, held in anticipation of International Children’s Day, gathered various stakeholders including representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, civil society organizations, orphanages, the Ombudsman’s office, the Youth Union, the Women’s Union, and social workers from the Ministry of Labor.
The training session showcased a comprehensive educational manual on preventing child trafficking developed by SMICA. This manual covers international legal frameworks and effective strategies to combat child trafficking.
A representative from the Ombudsman’s office underlined the importance of taking decisive political actions to ensure the holistic protection of vulnerable populations.
Additionally, discussions during the training delved into identifying risk factors and vulnerabilities, the role of media in raising awareness about child trafficking, and the necessity of coordinated efforts to address human trafficking. The training provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, build partnerships, and amplify their impact in the fight against this pressing global issue.
Through collaborative workshops like these, progress can be made towards a future where all children are secure and shielded from exploitation.
