Solution Found for Finding Shepherd at 60k TL Salary

The traditional profession of shepherding, once considered lucrative, is now facing extinction in certain regions. Despite offering a full salary of 60 thousand TL per month, finding a shepherd has become nearly impossible for villagers in Erzincan, Turkey.

In response to the shortage of shepherds, villagers have resorted to creative solutions. In Tercan, cattle owners have established a system among themselves to graze their animals in pastures since they could not find a shepherd to do so.

One villager, Şinasi Ceylan, expressed his frustration, stating, “There is no shepherd, the turn is going to the plateau.” With 200 cows to tend to, the villagers have had to take matters into their own hands.

Another resident, Asım Genç, noted how the demand for shepherds has declined over the years. He mentioned, “Since 2010 we cannot find a shepherd. In the past, shepherds would beg for work, but now no one is willing to take on the role, despite the high salary offered.”

This shift in the shepherd profession highlights the changing dynamics of rural life and the challenges faced by those in agricultural communities. As villages adapt to the scarcity of shepherds, they are finding new ways to care for their livestock and maintain their way of life.
