Solution to Istanbul’s Traffic Problem Revealed on CNN TÜRK – News Headline

Istanbul Ranked as the Most Congested City in the World in 2024
According to the 2024 Global Traffic Scorecard by the US-based research company INRIX, Istanbul has been named the most congested city in the world. The report revealed that drivers in Istanbul lost an average of 105 hours in traffic throughout the year. Following Istanbul, New York City and Chicago were ranked second and third, with drivers spending an average of 102 hours per year stuck in traffic. London and Mexico City rounded out the top five, with drivers in both cities spending 101 and 97 hours respectively dealing with congestion.
In response to this ongoing issue, Istanbul Commerce University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ilıcalı shared his insights on how the city can tackle its traffic problems during an interview on CNN TÜRK. Ilıcalı proposed several solutions to alleviate traffic congestion in Istanbul:
– Optimize the use of existing roads by creating dedicated lanes for public transportation, such as metrobus, commercial taxis, minibuses, and vehicles with multiple passengers.
– Expand the metro network to cover more areas and provide better connectivity to encourage citizens to use public transportation over private vehicles.
– Increase the number of bicycle lanes and promote cycling as a sustainable mode of transport.
– Upgrade signalized intersections with advanced technology for better traffic management.
– Utilize the sea as a mode of public transportation to reduce traffic on the roads.
By implementing these solutions, Istanbul can work towards easing its traffic congestion issues and improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
