Uzbekistan and South Korea Partner to Build Waste Recycling Plant in Jizzakh Region
In a significant move towards enhancing environmental protection and waste management, Uzbekistan and South Korea have signed a grant agreement to construct a waste recycling plant in the Jizzakh region. The project, valued at $6.2 million and spanning over four years, was formalized during a visit by Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Iskandar Kutbiddinov, to Seoul. The agreement was signed with the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) under South Korea’s Ministry of Environment.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of waste management and environmental safety. South Korea will provide expertise and technology to improve waste management practices in Uzbekistan, particularly in the Jizzakh region.
The waste recycling plant will focus on reclaiming a landfill site, with plans to collect 300,000 cubic meters of waste. Utilizing pyrolysis technology, the plant will capture and incinerate landfill gas. Furthermore, the facility will be equipped with an electricity generator to convert waste into energy, promoting sustainable energy production in the region.
This partnership is expected to play a vital role in helping Uzbekistan achieve its environmental goals by addressing waste management challenges and promoting sustainable energy solutions in the Jizzakh region. It represents a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for both countries.
