Spanish Company to Manufacture Electric Buses in Uzbekistan

UNVI, a Spanish company specializing in buses, has proposed a new partnership with Uzbekistan to convert Mercedes buses into electric vehicles. The company is also exploring the potential of establishing local production of urban and tourist transport in the country.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Spain, Farrukh Tursunov, recently met with UNVI’s CEO, Eloy Pérez, to discuss potential collaboration in the automotive industry and green transportation. Pérez expressed interest in jointly manufacturing a range of buses, minibuses, and other vehicles under the UNVI brand, utilizing the company’s advanced technologies. The growing demand for buses in Uzbekistan, especially driven by increasing tourist traffic, was highlighted as a key factor in the discussions.

A major focus of the talks was the proposal to convert decommissioned Mercedes-Benz Conecto buses from Tashkent into electric vehicles. UNVI also plans to provide training for specialists to implement cutting-edge technologies in the transportation sector. The proposed cooperation project would be based at the SamAuto plant in Samarkand, taking into consideration local conditions and market competitiveness.

However, an update from SamAuto representatives revealed that they are currently not aware of any plans for cooperation with UNVI and that the matter is not under consideration at this time.

UNVI, founded in 1992, is part of the Pérez Rumbao S.A. group and operates manufacturing facilities in Spain and Portugal. The company supplies buses with both internal combustion engines and electric motors to various countries around the world, including the European Union, the United States, China, and others.

The potential partnership between UNVI and Uzbekistan holds promise for the development of sustainable transportation solutions in the country, with a focus on electric vehicles and advanced technologies.
