Speaker of Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament Holds Meeting with UNDP Resident Representative
Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, Nurlanbek Shakiev, had a meeting with the UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan, Louise Chamberlain. The Parliament’s press service reported that during the meeting, they discussed the planned projects and the results of their joint work within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme.
Shakiev emphasized the long-standing partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the UN Development Programme, stating that cooperation started from the early years of the country’s independence. He expressed the importance of the assistance and support provided by UNDP, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, the Speaker highlighted the priority areas of partnership with UNDP. He mentioned that they are currently working on implementing the National Development Program of Kyrgyzstan until 2026. Kyrgyzstan is particularly interested in collaborating with UNDP on projects related to environmental protection, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, and the promotion of a green economy.
Shakiev also mentioned that Kyrgyzstan has developed a draft roadmap following the declaration of 2023-2027 as the “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Region” at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on December 14, 2022. Their main objective is to work within the framework of this roadmap.
In recognition of Louise Chamberlain’s work as the UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan, the Speaker of Parliament presented her with a Certificate of Merit from the Parliament.
Chamberlain expressed the importance of the Parliament’s role in implementing joint projects and stated that their cooperation will continue in the future. She highlighted the need to work together on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and mentioned the significance of addressing issues related to ecology, green economy, and digitalization.
The meeting between Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev and UNDP Resident Representative Louise Chamberlain demonstrates the strong partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the United Nations Development Programme.
