Spring cleaning operation leads to bust of cyber gang
A cyber gang of 300 people has been busted in Turkey for fraudulently using transportation cards and making a profit of 3 billion liras. The gang used “Phishing” methods, where they copied the exact transportation card sites used in public transportation in various cities. They advertised these fake sites with search engines to lure citizens into using their services. The İzmir Cyber Crime Branch began an investigation lasting over eight months after receiving numerous complaints. The suspects established front companies to finance their illegal activities, and they also participated in illegal betting activities. The police detained over 200 suspects in simultaneous raids, and digital materials, as well as a significant sum of money, were seized during the operation. The gang’s illegal activities have been stopped, protecting citizens from further fraud.
