SSS arrests Almalyk resident for illegal $2.4 million land sale
The State Security Service (SSS) in Uzbekistan has been successful in preventing several illegal land sale operations across various regions in the country. One recent case involved the arrest of a resident of Almalyk city who was caught in the act of trying to sell 32 hectares of agricultural land in Akhangaran district. The individual had promised to facilitate the land’s official registration in the buyer’s name in exchange for a hefty sum of $2.4 million, but was apprehended after receiving a $500,000 advance payment.
In a separate operation, two individuals from Yangiyul district were also caught attempting to illegally sell 48 sotka of reserve land belonging to the district administration. They demanded $60,000 for the transaction, along with an additional $8,160 for handling the necessary cadastral documentation. The culprits were detained while receiving a total of $64,000.
Another incident took place in Sherabad district, Surkhandarya region, where an individual tried to sell land belonging to the “Amu-Surkhan” Irrigation Systems Basin Department and agricultural land owned by a local resident for a total price of $60,000. The suspect was caught receiving $56,700 and 43 million UZS.
Additionally, in Urgench district, Khorezm region, a person was apprehended for attempting to illegally sell state-reserve land along the Shovot canal. The individual intended to formalize the land in the buyer’s name in exchange for $45,000 and 13 million UZS. SSS officers and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes intercepted the transaction and made the arrest.
Criminal cases have been initiated against all individuals involved in these illegal land sale operations, and investigations are currently ongoing to ensure justice is served. The SSS remains vigilant in protecting the integrity of land transactions and preventing fraudulent activities in Uzbekistan.
