SSS Exposes Widespread Corruption in Three Regions

The State Security Service (SSS) has recently uncovered several corruption-related offenses in the Fergana, Namangan, and Andijan regions of Uzbekistan.

In a joint operation with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, SSS officers exposed various illegal activities in these regions.

In the Fergana case, two water supply inspectors from the “Fergana Water Supply” JSC Kokand branch were caught accepting bribes totaling $51,000. These bribes were in exchange for installing water meters in 555 newly built apartments, opening individual water service accounts, issuing certificates, and providing other related services. The inspectors were arrested with physical evidence, and a criminal case has been opened against them.

In Namangan, an engineer from the “Energosavdo” enterprise was arrested for accepting a $20,000 bribe through an intermediary. The engineer had discovered illegal use of electricity by a metal-melting enterprise but demanded a bribe to overlook the offense and prevent a fine. The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention.

Lastly, in Andijan, the head of a district cadastral department was caught accepting a $6,000 bribe in his office. The official had demanded the bribe in exchange for various actions related to an illegal construction on state-leased land. The official has also been placed in pre-trial detention.

The State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes have initiated criminal cases against all individuals involved in these corruption-related offenses. Investigations are ongoing to ensure that justice is served and corruption is rooted out in these regions.
