State agencies caught in 20 billion UZS public procurement scandal

The Competition Committee Uncovers Violations in State Procurements Totaling Nearly 20 Billion UZS
During July and August, the Competition Committee discovered that legal requirements were not met in the state procurement process, leading to nearly 20 billion UZS being unlawfully spent. The Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights took action to prevent these violations and ensure transparency in the procurement process.
The highest number of violations were found in the Kokand landscaping department, which accounted for 6.3 billion UZS, and the medical association of Chirakchi district in the Kashkadarya region, which amounted to 1.7 billion UZS. These violations included actions that restricted competition and went against the laws governing state procurement.
As a result of the Committee’s investigation, criminal cases were initiated against the responsible parties, and the unlawful purchases were annulled. Various organizations and institutions in different regions of Uzbekistan were found to have allowed conflicts of interest in their public procurement activities.
The Committee’s efforts to enforce compliance with state procurement laws have helped to uncover and rectify these violations, ensuring that public funds are spent efficiently and transparently. By holding accountable those who seek to exploit the system for personal gain, the Committee is working towards creating a fair and competitive business environment in Uzbekistan.
