State regains control of marble processing facility

Kyrgyz Too Tash Marble and Porcelain Tile Plant Transferred to State Ownership

In a recent development, the Kyrgyz Too Tash marble and porcelain tile plant located in Tokmak city has been transferred to state ownership. This transfer comes as part of an investigation into money laundering, as reported by the press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS).

The facility has now been placed under the control of the State Property Management Agency after it was deemed to have been illegally privatized. The plant is known for operating on an industrial scale, producing marble and porcelain tiles, as well as sand and gravel mixtures. It boasts a raw material base with quarries, a railway access road, and a vehicle fleet. Additionally, modern equipment imported from Italy enables the plant to produce over 30,000 square meters of facing slabs monthly.

Kyrgyz Too Tash has a long history dating back to the 1960s, when it held all-Union significance and supplied construction materials to cities across the Soviet Union. In fact, more than 60 percent of municipal buildings in Bishkek were constructed using the company’s products. Today, a majority of the plant’s products are geared towards exports, according to the SCNS.

This transfer to state ownership marks a significant turning point for the Kyrgyz Too Tash plant, highlighting efforts to rectify past privatization issues and ensure the continued operation of this important industrial facility.
