Stealing Electricity: Mining Farm’s 34.3 Billion Soum Scam in Syrdarya

The State Security Service, in collaboration with other relevant authorities, has uncovered a mining farm in Syrdarya involved in electricity theft. The farm, housed within a livestock farming company, was found to be using 107 pieces of equipment to produce cryptocurrency with devices such as Innosilicon T3, Whatsminer m21s, and Antminer S9 Bitmain.

It was discovered that between April 2022 and March 2024, the owners of the farm tampered with the meter readings by disconnecting one of the meter wires at intervals. This illegal activity led to the theft of 39.3 million kWh of electricity, valued at 34 billion 367 million soums. This amount of electricity could have covered the monthly energy needs of several districts in the region.

An investigation has been launched against the officials of the limited liability company under the charge of theft. This incident highlights the importance of monitoring and preventing electricity theft in the country to ensure fair distribution and usage of resources.
