Stepfather of 2-year-old girl in Batken region arrested for abuse

BISHKEK – The stepfather of a two-year-old girl in Buzhum village has been placed in a pre-trial detention center for a month following the severe beating of the child. The Department of Internal Affairs in Batken region confirmed this information to 24.kg news agency.

The decision to detain the stepfather was made by the district court as the investigation into the case continues. The Director of Healthcare Coordination and Management Center in Batken region, Arzybek Borubekov, provided an update on the condition of the child, stating that she remains in a coma and is still connected to a ventilator. Her condition is described as stably serious.

The incident came to light on June 7 when the Batken Regional Combined Hospital admitted the two-year-old from Zhany-Zher village to the intensive care unit unconscious. As a result of the initial investigation, a criminal case was opened under Article 138 “Torture” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The girl’s stepfather was subsequently detained on suspicion of beating her and was initially held in a temporary detention facility for 48 hours.
