ASTANA – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein have come together to emphasize the importance of strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Jordan. The joint statement, adopted on Feb. 19, highlights areas of focus such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, IT, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.
The leaders have shown a readiness to expand collaboration in the nuclear industry as well. Additionally, they have expressed a mutual desire to explore opportunities for developing transport and logistics routes, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. To enhance tourism, the possibility of opening direct flights between the two countries is being considered.
In the field of education, both leaders are committed to increasing cooperation through student and teacher exchanges, joint educational programs, and scientific research. They have also pledged to deepen cultural ties by organizing joint events such as exhibitions and cultural days.
Looking ahead to 2025, the leaders have proposed joint cultural and business events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the twinning between Astana and Amman. These events will feature festivals, exhibitions, and exchanges focusing on sustainable development and technology.
To ensure the implementation of these initiatives, the governments have been tasked with convening regular meetings of the Kazakh-Jordanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Cultural, and Humanitarian Cooperation. Efforts will also intensify within the Business Council to identify promising trade, economic, and investment opportunities.
Furthermore, discussions on international and regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East, were exchanged during the meeting. As a gesture of gratitude, President Tokayev honored King Abdullah II with Kazakhstan’s highest state honor, the Order of Altyn Kyran (Golden Eagle).
