
Students Caught in April 23 Demonstrations

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 shook Istanbul off the coast of Silivri at 12.49 hours. The earthquake was felt in many districts of Istanbul and Marmara. During the 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day ceremonies, parents and students were caught off guard at the Avcılar Ambarlı Primary School. In the midst of panic, students, parents, and teachers fled from the school.
At the moment of the earthquake in Yeşilköy, where the ceremonies were being held, panic ensued in the school’s garden. The chaotic moments were captured on mobile phone cameras by witnesses.
Students and parents in the school garden were seen trying to escape amidst the chaos caused by the earthquake. The terrifying scenes were recorded on mobile phones.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, authorities have started conducting field surveys, and so far no reports of casualties have been received.
