Success Stories in Poverty Alleviation in Uzbekistan

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has highlighted Uzbekistan’s successful experience in combating poverty using “advanced foreign approaches.” In a congratulatory message to participants of the international conference “Global Dialogue on Multidimensional Poverty” in Tashkent and Samarkand, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the progress made in addressing poverty at the grassroots level, starting from the mahalla.

The President acknowledged that many countries around the world are interested in learning from experts to find effective solutions to poverty reduction. He stated that over the past five years, Uzbekistan has implemented successful strategies that have resulted in over 2.3 million needy families, women, single elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities benefiting from guaranteed social protection—four times more than in 2017.

Furthermore, President Mirziyoyev shared that the coverage of children with preschool education has significantly increased from 27% to 74% in the past three years, leading to a decrease in the poverty level among children from 22% to 14%.

Looking ahead, the President outlined plans to continue providing extensive support to vulnerable segments of the population in Uzbekistan with the goal of reducing the poverty level to 7% within the next three years. This commitment demonstrates Uzbekistan’s dedication to improving the well-being of its citizens and ensuring a more inclusive society for all.
