A senior consultant to the Supreme Court’s criminal board has been detained in Tashkent for accepting a bribe. According to the State Security Service, the consultant promised to help acquit two previously convicted citizens for the sum of $10,000. The plan was to transfer the criminal case through the cassation procedure of the Supreme Court to the Fergana Regional Court.

In a separate incident, a senior assistant judge of the judicial panel of the Surkhandarya regional court for economic cases was also detained by employees of the Surkhandarya Regional State Security Service. This judge had promised to help a local businessman get a positive decision on his claims at the appeal stage for $6,000.

The senior consultant and the senior assistant judge are facing criminal charges under Article 168 (Fraud) and Article 211 (Giving a bribe) of the Criminal Code. As a result, a preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied against them.

It is a concerning situation when those in positions of power and authority are found to be engaging in corrupt practices. These incidents highlight the importance of upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law. The authorities must continue to take a strong stance against corruption and hold accountable those who seek to undermine the integrity of the legal system.

It is crucial for the public to have confidence in the fairness and impartiality of the judiciary. Cases like these serve as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to ensure that the legal system operates with transparency and integrity, free from corrupt influences.
