Surkhandarya Region Hit by Mudflow

Following a flood that occurred in the Kumkurgan district of Surkhandarya region, 360 people have been temporarily moved to the houses of their relatives in a safe area. The heavy rains that hit the hills of the district resulted in rainwater entering the Elobod and Azlarsoy mahallas, causing damage to several houses and properties.

In response to the flood, regional authorities took immediate action to ensure the safety of the affected population. Residents from 56 households in Azlarsoy and 32 households in Elobod were relocated to safer areas. Additionally, efforts were made to remove floodwaters and clean up the affected areas.

The flooding also impacted a section of the M-41 highway and a railway crossing, causing disruptions in traffic and railway operations. However, with the coordinated efforts of rescue teams and railway employees, the road and railway were restored to normal operations.

Thankfully, no casualties were reported as a result of the flooding in Kumkurgan district. Other districts in the region, including Shurchi, Sherabad, and Bandikhon, also experienced heavy rain but managed to divert the excess water safely through established floodways.

The clean-up and recovery efforts are ongoing in the affected areas, with teams working diligently to return the community to normalcy. Despite the challenges posed by the flood, the cooperation and swift response of authorities and local residents have been instrumental in mitigating the impact of the disaster.
