Surkhandarya Welcomes New Small Hydropower Plant Generating 13 Million kWh Annually

A new small hydropower plant has recently been commissioned in the Sariosiyo district of the Surkhandarya region in Uzbekistan. The “Zarchob-1A” plant, with a capacity of 3 MW, is expected to generate 13 million kWh of electricity annually, benefiting around 4,750 households in the area.

The project, costing a total of $3.3 million, was officially launched on August 30 by “Uzbekhydroenergo.” Situated on the Topalang River, the plant marks the fourth time that water from the river is being utilized to produce electricity through hydro turbines.

The construction of the “Zarchob-1A” plant was carried out by Gidro Texnik LLC, with the installation of a vertical Francis-type hydroturbine. The completion of the project has also led to the creation of five new job opportunities in the region.

With its environmentally-friendly approach to energy production, the new hydropower plant is a significant step towards providing sustainable electricity to households in the Sariosiyo district. Through its operation, it is expected to boost local economic development and contribute to the region’s energy needs.
