Surviving Thanks to His Father
Ömer Altınay Receives Kidney Transplant from Father
In a heartwarming story of love and sacrifice, Ömer Altınay, a 14-year-old boy diagnosed with kidney failure, has finally received a kidney transplant after waiting for four long years. The donor? His own father, Ahmet Altınay.
Ömer Altınay’s condition had confined him to his home, unable to eat, drink, or go outside. Witnessing his son’s suffering, Ahmet Altınay made the courageous decision to donate his kidney. “I’ll give it, I hope our tissue will hold,” he said. And indeed, the transplant was successful. Ahmet Altınay’s kidneys had a compatibility rate of 98 and 100, and he chose to give the healthier kidney to his son as a birthday present on his 18th birthday.
When asked about his father’s selfless act, Ömer Altınay expressed his gratitude. “I have experienced this disease for 3.5-4 years. I was in a difficult period. So I couldn’t go out, I couldn’t travel. My friends were calling, I couldn’t go out. My father was a hero, that is, he donated his kidney. He is the one who connects me to life,” he said.
Dr. Taner Kıvılcım, a general surgeon and instructor member, explained that Ömer Altınay had been on dialysis for four years and was facing complications. Ahmet Altınay’s voluntary donation was a significant relief, allowing them to witness Ömer’s recovery and return to a normal life. “It is a very nice thing, of course, to see him eat and drink in return. It is a very pleasant process for us to see that he has regained himself and returned to normal,” Dr. Kıvılcım said.
This heartwarming story emphasizes the importance of organ donation and the power of a parent’s love for their child. Ahmet Altınay’s selflessness has given his son a second chance at life, and their bond as father and son has grown stronger through this experience.
