False Bomb Threat Report Leads to Arrest in Bishkek

Authorities in Bishkek have arrested a 31-year-old man, A. Zh., for allegedly making a false bomb threat on May 5. The swift response was carried out by the city’s Main Internal Affairs Department in collaboration with the Bishkek Main Directorate of the State Committee for National Security.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on that day, an anonymous caller reported a bomb threat at the Asia Mall shopping center. Following the call, security forces launched an inspection of the premises but found no explosives, ensuring the safety of shoppers and staff.
Subsequently, the suspect, A. Zh., was detained during search operations and has since been taken to the temporary detention facility of the Main Internal Affairs Department. Authorities have opened a criminal case against him under the Kyrgyz Republic’s Criminal Code for "knowingly false report of an act of terrorism."
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Main Internal Affairs Department has issued a reminder that making a false bomb threat is a serious offense. Under the relevant legal provisions, those found guilty can face imprisonment for up to five years.
Officials stress the importance of responsible communication regarding threats to public safety, as such actions can lead to severe legal consequences.
