Bishkek to Osh Highway to Undergo Major Repairs in 2025
The Bishkek to Osh highway will undergo major repairs starting in 2025, with a focus on renewing the asphalt concrete pavement in Suusamyr Valley. This announcement was made by First Deputy Minister of Transport of Kyrgyzstan, Talantbek Soltobaev, during a briefing in Bishkek.
Construction of this important transport artery began in 1997 and was completed in 2005. However, after 20 years of operation, the pavement has suffered significant damage and its condition continues to deteriorate every year.
“It’s time for major repairs. We plan to completely renew the asphalt concrete pavement in the Suusamyr Valley next year,” stated Talantbek Soltobaev.
The deputy minister explained that the major repairs will involve a complete renewal of the pavement, as well as the possibility of repairing the existing pavement by laying a new layer. The total length of the road is 670 kilometers, and the repair work will not only be limited to Suusamyr Valley but will also extend to other areas. The duration of the repair project will depend on the allocated funds, and the ministry is committed to keeping the roads in good condition.
Talantbek Soltobaev also highlighted that in 2023, 197 million soms were collected at collection points in Sosnovka and Kara-Kul, which will be used for maintaining the tunnel and other road projects across the republic.
The upcoming major repairs aim to improve the quality and safety of the Bishkek to Osh highway, ensuring smoother and more reliable transportation for residents and visitors alike.
