Sword Oath Ceremony Review: Latest Updates

Article:
After the recent graduation ceremony of the Military Academy, where images of the oath taking with swords circulated on social media, an investigation has been initiated to look into the incident.
The Ministry of National Defense has released a statement regarding the issue, stating that the Turkish Armed Forces have acted in accordance with discipline. The statement emphasized that the incident is being thoroughly examined and all aspects are being carefully considered.
According to the sources, necessary actions will be taken against personnel found to have intentional, faulty, negligent, or irresponsible actions within the disciplinary legislation once the investigation is completed.
It was also highlighted that the Turkish Armed Forces should not be weakened during this process and that it is crucial not to rely on misinformation or attempts to distort the incident.
Furthermore, details about the sword oath ceremony were shared by Ministry sources. The oath in question was first included in a directive on January 29, 1999, and it was later amended in the National Defense University Ceremony Directive on March 29, 2023, to take its current form during graduation ceremonies.
Currently, only the military oath is taken during graduation ceremonies, as per the existing protocol.
